To improve the cycling, walking and wheeling connections from north Keynsham and the station area, we are proposing improvements to Station Road and Keynsham High Street roundabout.
The lanes on the existing mini roundabout, at the junction of the High Street, Station Road and Bristol Road, would be narrowed to provide a safer junction for vehicles, and more space, better accessibility and overall improved safety for pedestrians.
New zebra crossings would be created on each ‘arm’ of the roundabout, and the existing zebra crossing opposite the Old Bank on High Street would be relocated. While this is still being explored, Keynsham Church Bus Stop B will probably need to be removed or relocated further down Bristol Road to make space for these changes.
The existing lamp would remain in the centre of the new roundabout and be stored safely during construction.
There would be some loss of parking on either side of the High Street, leading up to the roundabout, but we have tried to retain as much as possible. The existing short-stay 30-minute parking space would be removed to allow for improvements to the roundabout. The parking by Fear Hall would be maintained and amended to provide two Blue Badge parking spaces, a loading bay and a length of parking bay for general use.
Designs have been developed in line with Bath & North East Somerset Council and Keynsham Town Council’s the Keynsham Town Centre Regeneration Action Plan.

The proposals for Station Road are designed to provide improved connections between key destinations and amenities such as Keynsham Station, Memorial Park, the bypass and developments such as the Chocolate Quarter retirement village.
The current crossing on Station Road by Priory Road would be upgraded to become a shared use, signalised crossing, with traffic lights adjusted to give buses priority.
The pavements on the south side of Station Road would be widened to allow cyclists to also use them, with crossings raised to pavement level at Pool Barton and The Park to allow more continuous routes for pedestrians and to give them priority.
The crossing over Station Road at Pool Barton would be upgraded to link the shared use path and on road cycle lane, heading east towards the station.
These proposals would narrow traffic lanes and widen paths, providing new sections of shared use path, better linking the Keynsham High Street roundabout with Keynsham Station.
Improvements would also be made to side roads to help make walking, wheeling and cycling routes consistent, safe and easy to navigate.

What would these changes mean?
- Safer, more pleasant and better-connected walking, wheeling and cycling options in the area
- Safe connections allowing residents of Keynsham to access the new bus stops and shared use path, linking into routes to Bristol and Bath
- Crossings built up to the same height as the pavement to make it easier and safer for those with pushchairs, mobility scooters or wheelchairs to cross the roads
- Moving the Keynsham Church bus stop 25 metres closer to town and removing or relocating Keynsham Church Bus Stop B to make space for the proposals
- There will be some loss of parking on Station Road and the High Street to accommodate these changes to improved footpaths and pedestrian access, but less than proposed in 2023.
What’s changed since 2023?
- We have reduced the amount of parking on the High Street impacted by the proposals.
- Two Blue Badge parking bays, a loading bay and three informal parking spaces on the High Street would now be retained, while still enabling the footpath to be widened.
